A wonderful set of 12 (2 arms, 10 sides) Hepplewhite style shield back chairs, dark mahogany chairs. Circa 1900-1910, the plume, urn and swag carving on the backs is crisp and well done. They are still in their original patterned horsehair upholstery, a very expensive fabric, with nailhead trim. They have serpentine front seat rails, beautifully outswept arms, and nice proportions. Some of the chairs are numbered and there is an illegible penciled name on one inside back seat rail.
Dimensions: 39" back height, side chair seats 20"wide, arm chairs 22"wide, overall approximately 22"deep.
